How are safe these wireless dog fences though? I am not just talking about for the dog but for the owners as well. I am worried that it may be as harmful as living near hydro towers. Can someone tell me more about this?

Hello, Tanya! Your inquiry is more than justified. First of all, let’s cover the dog’s safety. Each system comes with several levels of correction intensities. As with any other product, pet owners should test the collars first and pay attention to any side effects. Through trial and error, they can discover the right correction level for their dog starting with the mildest of them, of course. Usually, it is the size of the dog that dictates whether the dog responds to low correction intensity or it needs a higher one.

As for owners, they are safe as well. The transmitter that people plug in is able to communicate with the collars through radio signals. These are safe and not at all similar to those coming from hydro towers. Hope this helps!

It doesn’t seem to matter which above ground wireless dog fence I were to get. What concerns me is how difficult is it to assemble? Is there someone who I can hire to put it together? I am not a handy person.

Hello, Marc! The beauty of these above ground systems is that they do not require getting your hands dirty. Instead of digging trenches to plant some wire, you’ll just need to find a secure place for the transmitter. Collars go around your dog’s neck, and you set up the distance you want for your pet zone.

I really did not care for the PetSafe Free to Roam Wireless Dog Fence because the battery life was too short, and it needed to be replaced often. The maintenance of it is too high. I am looking for something that lasts longer even if I have to pay more.

Hi Carly, thanks for your opinion! We agree that the battery is not the best. Still – it’s a good product, if people don’t mind that. I recommend the Mockins Wireless Above Ground Dog Fence for longer battery life!

What kind of wireless dog fence do you recommend for a large intact male Doberman that has some aggressive tendencies? There are some females in the area and whenever they go into heat he will disappear for days and I am grateful he comes back home. However, I need something to keep him in.

Hi Rick! The PetSafe Free to Roam one. While it may not sound like much, what with the “free to roam” name, I guarantee it’ll keep even the largest, most aggressive dogs fenced in. However, you’ll have to change the battery every so often.

I believe that PetSafe makes the most effective and the least cruel wireless dog fences. I like the idea because it keeps the dog in the yard but I also was worried that it would scare the dog too, which is not what the objective is.

We agree, Kara! but there’s lots out there that aren’t from PetSafe yet still give you that vibration setting which in my opinion is by far the best
