How to Install a Wireless Dog Fence

Out of all the dog fences out there, a wireless fence is perhaps one of the more user-friendly ones to install. The best wireless dog fence should take up little of your time to set up so you can get a jumpstart on training your pet. Installation can sometimes vary depending on the exact model, but they all generally follow a similar path.

The first thing you must do is figure out where you will be placing the transmitter. This may be the longest part of the installation process. There are factors to keep in mind when placing the transmitter as certain things can make it not work as well as it should. For instance, it can’t be too off-center in your home, and it can’t be around a lot of metal like washing machines, furnaces, etc.

Afterward, turn on the collar. Some models require syncing up, which is relatively simple to do. Lastly, setup your boundary. Hold the collar and walk around, listening out for the ‘beep’ to learn where you should place the boundary flags. When all is said and done, place the collar on your dog and start training.

Conclusion

Your beloved pets deserve their freedom while maintaining their safety. So, they deserve to have the best wireless dog fence that will aid in their training without harming them. The fences mentioned above have their benefits and disadvantages, but they can make the training process go along smoother. If any of you have tried out these systems or know of others not mentioned, we’d enjoy hearing your opinions in the comments.

I don’t know much about these wireless dog fences but they sound interesting. My yard is open and I have to keep my dog leashed in the backyard because he will run off otherwise. However I need to know, are these products veterinarian approved?

Hello, Jesse! It’s OK to be a little skeptical at first especially when there’s a question about your dog’s safety.

Nonetheless, the concept of a wireless dog fence got the approval of not only veterinarians, but also trainers and behaviorists. To put your mind to ease, you can always open this topic with your local vet. But you’ve got to admit: this modern solution is just what dogs need to remain safe and escape the leash to explore their surroundings, isn’t it?

While I am exploring the best wireless dog fences to get, I am strongly considering the YOUTHINK make. I know how a major con is that the maximum shock is weak. But I don’t see that as a bad thing. We want our dogs to stay in the yard, not to be hurt and shocked aggressively.

Hey, Pam! I think YOUTHINK is a great option for owners of short-hair dogs. This way, the collar can get to the skin, and the dog will notice all signals more easily. Higher shock intensities are not there to inflict pain, but to make larger dogs with thick fur aware of the collar corrections.

Again, it’s important for people to use the first days to train their dogs get accustomed to any new wireless fence system. This way, they’ll be able to adjust the perimeter, correction program, and collars. At some point, the collar won’t even have time to get to the final warning as dogs will know they have reached a limit.

After a few hours’ worth of work, the system will start operating smoothly to keep pets safe and people worry-free. Hope this helps!

I can echo how YOUTHINK is the best option if you are worried about your dogs getting injured by the shock. It is the best thing I got so my pug stays where she needs to stay- in the backyard. The shock is strong enough to give her the message to stay put but it doesn’t injure her in any way at all.

The Perimeter Technologies Wire-Free Dog Fence has so many glitches. I like how easy it was to install but it does not seem to be effective. Is there a way to get this fixed on my own or do I have to hire a technician?

Hi Cassandra! It sounds like you live somewhere with a lot of trees. Either that or you have objects across the perimeter, interfering with the fence. If you can’t move the stuff that’s blocking the signal, we recommend you go for some other product. The Perimeter fence is good for large open spaces. Thanks for stopping by!

Perimeter is not a good make as we tried out The Wire-Free Dog Fence and it was terrible. The shock was too strong and it happened during inappropriate times. The point is for the dog to get the message to stay put, not to torture it.

I am looking into this. What do you recommend is a good fence for a dog that weighs about 20 lbs? She is a miniature schnauzer and my biggest worry is that she will take off one day and she won’t be found again.

Petsafe makes good products, and their wireless dog fence falls into that as well. They know how to deliver the right amount of shock to give the dog a message to stay put, and the price is not bad either.

I will be asking my dog’s vet about all of these wireless dog fence models because I have not known much about how these operate. I do wonder how safe they are to use and if there is radiation that comes from it.
